A South Essex MP visited a local school at the end of term, to wish its long-serving
Headteacher a happy retirement.
Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, went along to Wyburns Primary Academy, in
Rayleigh, on the last day of term to thank retiring Headteacher, Kath Sansom, for her many
years of dedicated service to the school and to wish her the best for the future.
Mark worked very closely with Ms Sansom several years ago, when Wyburns was adversely
affected by the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or RAAC, in the
school’s roof.
Mark helped the Head and her staff find alternative accommodation, including in the old
Rochford District Council civic suite building on the Hockley Road, while repairs were
successfully carried out on the school building.
Speaking about his most recent visit to Wyburns, Mark said:
“Kath Sansom did an absolutely exceptional job during the RAAC crisis, keeping all of her
staff and pupils safe and then bringing them all home safely, once repairs had been securely
carried out. She has been a terrific Head at Wyburns and I wish her a happy and no doubt
very active retirement.”
