A South Essex MP visited the site of the rebuild of one of his local railway stations, to check on progress for himself.
Long-suffering Wickford passengers will recall that Greater Anglia demolished part of the station several years ago, to extend the platforms to accommodate longer trains - and then just left it, as a bunch of demountables.
As Wickford’s MP, Mark had to lobby Greater Anglia and the Department for Transport very hard, for some three years, to get the permissions and the multi-million pound funding to rebuild the station, but that process is now, thankfully, well under way.
The foundations are now almost complete and, providing the weather holds, the new station should be completed this autumn (as re-confirmed by the workers Mark spoke to at the site).
Commenting on the welcome progress, Mark said:
“I was pleased to witness the building work at Wickford Station progressing well and it should, if the weather holds, now hopefully be completed this autumn. This has been a long time coming but my Wickford constituents should now, finally, receive a brand new station, fit for the 21st century.”
