Rayleigh MP Mark Francois, recently marked Holocaust Memorial Day by signing a book of Commitment in the House of Commons, to commemorate and pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the Holocaust.
This year the 27th January, marked the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau – the Nazi death camp. In Essex and across the country, many events were held to mark this anniversary to ensure that the horrendous crimes that occurred during the Holocaust are never forgotten. This is the tenth year that the anniversary has been commemorated in the UK and this year the theme was ‘The Legacy of Hope’, which encourages people to learn from the experiences of survivors of the Holocaust.
After signing the book of commitment, Mark said:
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to commemorate the millions who died in the holocaust by signing the book of commitment in the House of Commons.
This year is particularly poignant as it marks the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp Aushwitz-Birkenau. Although now a long time ago I believe it is important to mark this day to ensure that the terrible crimes committed then are neither forgotten nor repeated.”
